Wicked is truly wicked, because because because becausssseeee
Soooo we went to see WICKED at the Apollo Victoria, this post nothing to do with london hotels of course, but lo and behold if there weren’t some london hoteliers amongst us (you know who you are – you’ve alllll seen the show a 100 times already you crazy flying monkeys you – in fact I was sitting next to a chap who knew allll the words to the songs, and quite right too!).
I should just state right now, this is not a theatre review, look at it more as a write-up of a wicked (see what I did there?) tapestry type tale of a lovely London laugh (phew, say that after a double voddies at interval, which myself and the lovely Saskia guzzled in about sixty seconds flat – wellll, you’ve only got a few mins you see to chat, goss, widdle, fag, and you’re back in the room).
For those fortunate souls that know me, they know that I am nothing more than a grumpy old troll when it comes to the theatre, but not tonight (err, last night) no sir. Firstly, we took Aimee with us, our student placement who is nearly (sniff/blubber) the end of her term with us pink plonkers. Amie had never been to the theatre before (I once met someone who had never eaten an orange, but I digress), and so with this touching piece of info, I felt compelled to stop my moaning, and bang on to Aimee about the action, the singing, the dancing, the smell of the greasy paint…..
Fortunately Wicked was spot on fantastic entertainment of the highest order – and trust me, coming from me, that’s the highest possible accolade for a show, Saskia was aghast at me, looking at me for sarcastic missives every few minutes – there were none. I think this was due to the fact that for my whole life (look away now if you haven’t seen the show – spoiler alert) I’ve always thought the wicked witch was, well, wicked, after finding that just like me, she is a misunderstood, emotional, talented, green, err lady, I literally could not hold back, she touched me and I was putty in her hands, I even gave her a wave at the end of the show (Saskia told me not to), and I am sure the fella next to me shed a tear.
Never one for being quiet in the theatre, I went through about 100 choccy raisins, one full candy-watch, and about half a pillowful of flumps, so for a Monday evening, quite a cracker.
I caught up with Aimee on the steps outside the show, I think she was overwhelmed, she literally broke into song, and was talking about becoming an actress. It was lovely to see, she was then kidnapped/accosted by some hoteliers…. I just hope I see her this morning – she’s yet to appear!
So, in summary Wicked good, wicked wicked wicked, I can see why people go back and see it again and again, I think I will go back, if only to be less emotional and identify with the witch that bit more.
Right, am off, because because because becaussseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
