An urban retreat the Sanderson London

While I carry on with my new venture with the team Monkeys…sorry Team London! ( a very interesting team in that too…Hmmmm). I come to my next stop of London hotels, and that being the ever so uniquely, boutiquely, smoochinquely (that’s rhymes..) five star Sanderson Hotel located in the heart of the west end! This hotel is the new trend to  ‘new luxury hospitality’ for all you luxe people who love luxury in London…butt…with a twist! The hotel moves away from the ‘normal walls’ look to a whole façade of floor to ceiling glass, which for sure shines in the natural light in every direction (even on a gloomy London day I’m sure!) through its ethereal sheer curtains.

The 50s building has been very cleverly transformed by Philip Starck probably one of the best known designers of the New design style! His visionary mix of style has most definitely brought an urban twist to the Sanderson bringing in a artistic approach and modern design. Upon entering the Sanderson the not only did the lobby area look very fascinating, but what caught my eye was Salvador Dali’s very pouty, very smooch, very popular hot red lips sofa! The sofa EVEN attracts passer by’s walking past the hotel who even run in to have a quick photo taken on it, most definitely a great way to draw the crowds in. Not only that the classic 60s mosaics and hand-carved African furniture with an oversized Louis XV armoire gives a great ambience to the hotel all this blended together gives you a very surprising and magical experience in pure simplicity.

After the surprising experience of the lobby, brought me to my next surprise or shall I say a magical surprise, Kate from the Sanderson gave me the privilege of entering their very own, very Purple..Wonderland! (That’s Alice in Wonderland for those of you who don’t know) when I refer to the Wonderland I mean the Purple Bar at the Sanderson. Those of you who like to have a bevvi or two in the heart of West End in totally different surroundings the Purple Bar is the place to be in London (please note however you must be a member if you are not a resident at the Hotel thank you very much!) Draped in violet silk opera curtains, and furnished with lavender Queen Anne chairs (Oh I loved these), purple etched Venetian mirrors and an enormous meteorite Bar the experience of it all is for sure straight out of the pages of Alice in Wonderland.

This time me and danno were not privileged enough to sit in the purple surrounding of the Purple Bar, we carried on walking past the focal energy point for the Sanderson the 80 feet Long Bar. Here by the Long Bar we were privileged to come by to a lush open air-oasis the ‘Courtyard Garden’ brimming with flowering trees, fountains, mosaics and a reflecting pool, guests can relax in this private sanctuary and wine and dine. We sure did stop here and have one of Sanderson’s well known Martini’s (well I did Danno stuck to the wine yawn yawn) my oh my was there a choice of different martini’s (all of course based on the original martini ‘The Martinez’ dating back to the 1860’s, I opted for the Honey Passion with a twist of Cinnamon something very different indeed!

So if you love London and you love urban retreats in the very heart London’s West End then the Sanderson is the place for you to go by farrr!

Sealed with a kiss……

By Saskia  //  hellolondon  //  3 Comments

As the words of the classic Jason Donovan song ‘Sealed with a kiss’ goes…I don’t want to say goodbye… Unfortunately, Daniel and I had to say these words to Eleonora at the exclusive Sanderson, A Morgans Hotel today as she is off to pastures new… We were invited to join the lovely Eleonora and Oscar for a first class lunch at the hotels amazing restaurant Suka. This 5* restaurant offers the most amazing authentic Malaysian Cuisine in a very chic and sophisticated setting. Due to the wonderful London weather we were able to sit outside in their unique courtyard garden amongst the beautiful flowers.

Designed by Philippe Starck, the landmarked 50s building is home to a number of extraordinary and quirky features which sets it apart from other hotels. From their spectacular Billiard room with its antique silver-leafed billiard table and floor to ceiling original 1950s stain glass window; to their space themed lifts; chic Purple Bar and Long Bar; hand-carved African furniture and not forgetting the famous red lips sofa. It really has something for everyone.  Also not forgetting its great location, just a short walk from Oxford Circus making it brilliant for shopping and a good base from which to explore London.

Equally as exceptional, don’t forget to also check out their sister hotel the St Martin’s Lane, A Morgans Original!
