The Radisson Edwardian Show-round-athon
Sometimes when I am tired (and delirious) at home I knock on doors ‘hello…housekeeping’, old habits!
The athletic legend Danno & myself are taken on a handful of hotel show-rounds (maybe they should be called hotel-rounds? Would be easier).
Soooo soooo sooo it was with fantastic delight that last week Radisson Edwardian hotels took us on a show-round-athon YES! Six hotels in one big go go, and a slap up lunch at the end of it, wooohyes, it is days like this I am glad I didn’t become a fireman.
We started at the May Fair, we were wowed by the rooms, the suites, and the amazing decor throughout the hotel. We bowled over to Leicester Square for the Radisson Edwardian Hampshire, and the Radisson Edwadian Leicester Square. There was a big debate on which was the better of the two – the big traditional hotel in the phenomenal location (overlooking Leicester Square) with fab restaurant & cosy relaxing bar, or the petite & perfectly formed boutiquey (Radisson Edwardian) Leicester Square (my vote always on the petite & cutie!).
Then we had a great stroll through Seven Dials to the Mountbatten in a cracker of a little Covent Garden street. Over further to the Radisson Edwardian Kenilworth & the Radisson Edwardian Bloomsbury Street (that are literally next door to each other). The Bloomsbury Street is particularly fabulous and is an utter delight, it has recently had a major refurbishment and is easily a jewel in Radisson Edwardian’s fine crown. The lunch we had there after the show-round-athon, was a fantastic reward, the lamb I had was exceptional, I would happily have eaten that all over again right away (but that’s just me), I
was stunned Danno didn’t have a steak (I thought that’s all he had).
So, a million cheers to Radisson Edwardian – that’s definitely the way we like to see our hotels – loads in one day! brilliant guys.

The World Cup has officially kicked off at the May Fair!
To celebrate the summer kick off, and get us in the mood for the football season, lastminute.com held a World Cup event yesterday at stunning The May Fair Hotel, in their signature suites.
For the Men (the Warriors) the Amarillo Suite showed non-stop football clips, housed a grooming expert, playstation, fuss-ball, beer on ice in the bath – you get the picture – oh, and of course football stars galore, Ian Wright, Paul Merson, all getting involved and getting us all excited about the upcoming world cup.
Over in the magenta-haven that is the Schiaparelli suite for the ladies (the footy widows), manicures, pedicures, non-stop Sex and the city, non-stop pampering, oh, and Kirsty Gallacher, and celebs galore milling in and out all day long.
And if that wasn’t enough, I was privileged enough to then join the evening party on the rootop suite that is the May Fair hotel’s penthouse suite – ohhh yes, just as good as it sounds. Not only was it Pimms-o-clock all night long, not only a pick n’mix sweet shop, and fab ice-creams, but more celebs than I think I have ever seen in one room. Thank goodness for the Pimms or I think I would still be starstruck!
The evening moved on with Louice Spence, lastminute.com’s celeb ambassador presenting his hilarious viral video for lastminute.com.

Training at the May Fair Hotel Gym
Now, look, when Dan & I first came up with running past all of our london hotel partners in one day, it didn’t seem like a crazy idea at all. Then we sat down and drew out the map… ah…the course will cover 40miles. Forty, four o. Ah. Still, we’ve done our marathons before, we’ve climbed up 1000 stairs for charity in 9 minutes, heck – Dan reckons he can eat five shredded wheat in one sitting.
So we mulled it over, and it didn’t seem so bad – what’s the worst that can happen? (err, don’t answer that), then we thought of our contingency plan if things got too much – walk! Simple, easy, walking. Except I know from experience (painful painful experience – in fact, the kind of experience where you burst into tears), after running more than 20 miles, you can’t even shuffle straight, let alone walk. Still, I convinced Dan (hahah my bad) and then oh dear… I had to convince myself
hmm.
As the weeks went on we raised a bit of cash for chariddy, things seemed a bit more positive, yeah we can do it, easy peasy, we’ll do it and then do another one the day after for 40 days after that.
So, all cool, until Friday just gone….. The May Fair Hotel very very kindly offered us a session with personal trainer to the stars; Benjamin Kilner. So off we trotted (well we took a cab) to meet Ben….
Well, first off Ben knows his onions (and he knows a thing or two about training too), he gave us a mountain of sound advice, asked us why the heck we were running 40 miles in one day, and told us everything we could do to prepare ourselves for the big day. Ben then put me and Dan through various challenges & a circuit of various techniques in how to get the best from our ultra-marathon. He certainly put us through the test, and hopefully we didn’t look too shabby (ok, we did).
Fantastic, except that when we left… ah…. NOW we’re terrifiedddddddddddddddddddd! Why are we doing this!!! why why, we were so panicked both of us went home and did various resistance & sprinting techniques we’d been through with Ben. Omg omg omg omg omg, we’re idiots! Well I don’t know are we (please someone tell us otherwise).
If anything all I could think of was something I saw on the first time I did the London marathon back in 2004. Round about mile 17 in the docklands I saw a massive banner ‘Pain is temporary, Pride is forever’, that got me through till back to Tower Bridge, just that simple slogan, and you know what, it’s true. So what if we suffer for a few hours? We’ll have something to be proud of for a while, and we’re helping the NSPCC along the way, perfect.
So thanks Ben for terrifying us and giving us a reality check, I think we needed it, it’s a good job we didn’t see Ben before we made the 40 mile decision as I might not have been writing this now!!!
