Mad dash to Clinton Cards alert…it’s Mother’s Day this Sunday!

By Gemma Francis  //  hellolondon  //  Comments Off

Not to stereotype but judging by the conversation around our office it’s the men of this world who need to be reminded to get their long suffering Mother’s a card and maybe some chocolates or flowers. If you in or around London this weekend here’s some nice things you might want to to with your Mum, go on treat her, you know she deserves it!! Or you could spend your time and money on yourself…hey we’re not here to judge!

Go out for a nice meal…

The good news is this could cost you less than you think because we are still promoting London Restaurant Week and just to help you out we have a category for suggested deals for Mother’s Day which you can find here. My personal choice here would be Suka at Sanderson…a 2 course lunch for £15 is an amazing deal. A random fact for you about Suka, I was filmed while eating in there for Masterchef.

An afternoon of pampering…

There are plenty of amazing spa’s around London and they can cost less than you think, if you don’t fancy spending the day in the spa yourself you could buy a voucher for your Mum to redeem when it suits her and that way you could pick up a bargain…for example up to 75% at Purity Spa, Hilton Park Lane or 2 for 1 at The Athenaeum? Check out the best London spa deals here.

A spot of Afternoon Tea…

My Mum loves a nice cup of tea and if your Mum is the same why not treat her to some fantastic posh tea, little sandwiches with the crusts cut off, homemade scones and impossibly small cakes..sounds good doesn’t it? We’ve got The Ritz, The Langham…check out the best deals here

A trip to the Theatre…

Even if you think you have seen everything, there’s always something new coming up, like Million Dollar Quartet, currently with no booking fee and up to £15 off. A few of the guys in the office have seen it already a give it a big thumbs up! There’s loads to choose from, from all singing musicals to serious plays, check them out here.

If you do decided on any of these then you might want to take away the hassle of the tube/bus/taxi/walk home and book one of our fantastic London Hotel deals. If you are able to, then Sunday night is a great night to stay away if you are looking for a deal as it is the night of the week when hotels tend to have their best prices available. If you have a tight budget but want something special we have 5* Top Secret hotels available on Sunday night from just £99 or if you are looking for something extra special, how about a stay at the ever-so-posh Goring hotel, where Kate Middleton is rumoured to be staying the night before the Royal Wedding!

Whatever you choose to do this weekend…have fun doing it!!

A London Hotel with a lot to offer!

By Gemma Francis  //  hellolondon  //  Comments Off

Today I had the pleasure of visiting a London hotel I have never been to before and having seen it for myself, if you haven’t been then it’s well worth a look.

The Hilton London Metropole is a beast of a hotel…it boasts that it can sleep more guests than any other London hotel and frankly I’m not going to argue with them! They have 1,054 bedrooms but you wouldn’t guess that on entering the lobby, it feels more intimate and friendly than you would expect from such a big hotel.

You could literally spend a whole weekend in the hotel without stepping outside, for example how many food and drink options do you need from a hotel? One? Three? More? How about 5 different options! They have the Lounge Bar (with late opening for residents), Caffe Cino, the newly refurbished Sports Bar with numerous large screen and plasma TV’s, Fiamma Restaurant serving Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner and finally Minako at the Met – an Asian fusion restaurant on the 24th floor, giving spectacular city views. If all that isn’t enough for you or you fancy a midnight snack there is also 24 hour room service.

If, after all that food and drink you feel the need to burn off some calories you can use the hotel’s health club including a 12.5m pool, sauna, steam room, exercise area and sports shop. Still not convinced…how about a visit to the Contrasti Hair Salon, offering hair and beauty treatments or maybe a visit to one of the hotels shops to pick up a couple of magazines or maybe a souvenir or two??

With such as large number of rooms you would probably expect a few different room types and you’d be right but let me make a suggestion…go for one of their lovely Executive rooms. Not only do you get a really nice, modern, large room you also get access to the very stylish Executive lounge, where you can have a continental breakfast, tea and snacks in the afternoon and canapés and drinks in the evening plus you can check in here so you won’t have to queue if you arrive in reception at  a busy time…well worth treating yourself to an upgrade!

You also need to know that the hotel has an excellent location; you are only a 10 minute walk to Oxford Street if you fancy a spot of shopping, 5 minutes from Paddington where you can pick up the Heathrow Express if you are stopping over before or after a flight and 10 minutes from St Pancras for the Eurostar! Edgware tube station is just a few yards from the hotel so you’ll be well connected wherever you need to get to.

I haven’t even got to the main reason you should get in there now and book this hotel…if you get your skates (book by 7th April) on you could save yourself 33% in the Hilton Spring Sale which is on now! Don’t quote me on this because prices are subject to change but you could get yourself a room here for £109 including breakfast and a late checkout of 6pm…perfect for a relaxing break.

Taio Cruz at The Landmark!

By Gemma Francis  //  hellolondon  //  Comments Off

I must apologise because it could well be said that the title for this blog post is misleading…so sorry to those of you who thought I was announcing a Taio Cruz concert/appearance at The Landmark hotel in Marylebone, I hate to disappoint you but I was in fact referring to one of the artists whose songs you might hear while enjoying a drink in the Winter Garden of the hotel.

I’m sure a lot of London Hotels can boast a pianist to accompany your afternoon tea but how many can offer a pianist playing everything from the Pulp Fiction theme tune to Rhianna and Lady Gaga! At first on entering the impressive Winter Garden I thought it must have been a joke or maybe someones birthday request that the pianist had grudgingly obliged to fulfill but no, he does in fact like to play a more modern, eclectic selection of songs. It’s this kind of touch that sets hotels apart from each other for me!

To be honest The Winter Garden Restaurant’s eight storey high glass atrium and huge palm trees already make it a unique feature among hotels, coupled with quite possibly the best coffee I’ve had in a London Hotel!

The hotel itself features some of the largest rooms in London with an average room size of 55sqm, with elegant design and big comfy beds! The hotel also has a spa which offers some fantastic organic beauty treatments and a chlorine free swimming pool. As well as the Winter Garden, the hotel has three further food and beverage options, including the very trendy Mirror Bar serving Cocktails, champagne and some of the finest cognac available!
