World Of Waldorf!!

By Gemma Francis  //  hellolondon  //  Comments Off

The rather fabulous Waldorf Hilton is over 100 hundred years old, don’t be fooled though, dear readers in blog land. When I say old, I don’t mean ‘old fashioned’ or ‘old and decrepit’ or ‘old and senile’ (at least I hope not) you need to think classic, iconic, legendary…

I find the interior to be somewhat of a surprise, the classic architecture of the exterior makes way for a modern, understated, stylish interior with warm and inviting colours. The hotel also boasts a good size gym and leisure facilities including pool, a rarity for a central London hotel. The contemporary rooms feature modern artwork in the form of very unique headboards, I was quick to spot the mohair throws on the beds…very cosy for a cold London night!

The area I wanted to really draw your attention though is the food! Eating is always a high point of my day and especially so a few days back when I was lucky enough to enjoy lunch in the hotel’s Homage Grand Salon. I should point out first of all that I was pleasantly surprised by the wine offered, I specified only a chardonnay and was given an Australian un-oaked chardonnay which is exactly what I would have chosen, even out of a list of 500 wines so I was immediately excited about what would follow!

My eye was immediately drawn to the filo wrapped goat’s cheese with rocket, pine nuts and beetroot which was delicious and just the right amount of acidity in the beetroot and balsamic vinegar to cut through the richness of the cheese. I opted for the open ravioli with vegetables and a saffron sauce for my main and I wasn’t disappointed! The vegetables, including asparagus and courgette were cooked to perfection with just the right amount of bite! The sauce, which could have been heavy and overwhelming was the perfect accompaniment, deliciously creamy and fragrant. After this, I really should have resisted the dessert but the mango panna cotta was too good to resist, served in a champagne class with fresh mangoes on top it was a smooth and sweet way to finish the meal.

I would recommend this as an excellent venue for a romantic meal after a show in the evening or what I think I’ll be doing is using it as a lovely lunchtime treat for the parents or in-laws!

Park Plaza Westminster Bridge

By Katy Barnett  //  hellolondon  //  Comments Off

Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London is a new addition to the Park Plaza brand, this contemporary hotel is located a stone’s throw away from one of its sister hotels – County Hall Park Plaza in London’s South Bank. However do not fret…It easily matches the elegance and modernism that the County Hall provides with an additional sprinkle of individuality.

Firstly the room… What a Studio! There is SO much I can say about it that I will keep it short and sweet… Well… Try to. On my stay I was lucky enough to stay in one of the Studio rooms located on the 8th floor.  The gigantic bed had the soft/hard contrast perfect, there’s a collective kitchen and living area – which is great for more than a one night stay as you have some extra space.   In the bathroom you’ll find a separate shower and bath which is excellent because if you’re like me I like to have a quick shower before I rush out to see the sights of London and when I get back spend hours soaking my sore feet from all the walking! The best part of the Studio was the remarkable view of Big Ben which is seen through floor to ceiling windows that stretch across the whole of the studio wall – it is an amazing feature.

For the guests that want a relaxing afternoon you must visit the Alami Spa. You can indulge in a wide range of treatments including Skin Solutions Facials, Replenishing Manicures and for those wanting to hit the town treat yourself to a St. Tropez Tanning session – The spa also open to Non hotel guests so you can bring your friends!

If you are more of a fitness freak and can’t sit down for two minutes you must visit the Fitness centre, which has cardiovascular equipment and a 15 metre swimming pool with sauna and steam room!

This hotel can defiantly boast on its range of cuisine to offer. One of the five to mention is the Brasserie Joel which homes the commended Chef Joel Antunes and prides itself on only providing the highest quality sourced ingredients. The Primo bar provides a range of cocktails made from the freshest ingredients. Free live music every night is provided – a new London hot spot? I think so!!

When you check out and want to partake in a little shopping, visit more of London’s iconic sights or catch a show, you can leave your bag with the hotel and they will look after it free of charge whatever time you wish to return!

Go and stay, dine, relax in this stylish hotel – you won’t regret it!
